Montenegrin king deposed

December 2, 1918

King Nicholas of Montenegro has been formally deposed by the country's national assembly, according to a report from Prague. The report was from the Czechoslovak Press Bureau, which came by way of Copenhagen to London. Montenegro's government declared last Friday for a union with Serbia under King Peter.
The entire Montenegrin royal family was included in the deposition.
Nicholas succeeded to the throne in 1860 as Prince of Montenegro. He was not named king until 1910, which was the 50th anniversary of his accession.
He has three sons and five daughters. Two daughters are married married into the former Russian Imperial family, and another daughter, Elena, is the wife of King Vittorio Emanuele of Italy.
Nicholas' eldest daughter, who died in 1890, was the wife of King Peter of Serbia.
Nicholas and his family fled Montenegro in December 1915. In an interview in November of this year, he said he was in support of the union with Serbia.
